MORETON, OUTWOODS AND BROMSTEAD WI REPORT FOR FEBRUARY 2020

There were a few anxious moments as members arrived for the February meeting as a power cut had plunged the room in to near darkness with only a little emergency lighting remaining. Thankfully, it did not last long and we were soon settling in to hear President Anne Griffiths run through the business. There is a change of speaker for the morning session at the Homes and Gardens Day on Tuesday 21st April 2020 at Stafford Showground. This will now be David Hunter from Nelsons Gin Distillery. The Beetle Drive was a great success in January with 7 members and 10 visitors in attendance. Tickets were available for the next group meeting on 9th April. Anne read out a card from Jan Breeze thanking MOBWI for their help at the Moreton Mart Market in November and also a letter received from the Severn Hospice thanking MOBWI for their donation of £200 from the Afternoon Tea in September. The speaker for the evening, Roger Craven, took us on a journey through the Highlands of Scotland. He has stayed at the same cottage on Mull for 22 years. There were delightful photographs of birds including the cuckoo, ptarmigan, osprey and white tailed eagle. Roger’s favourite larger bird is the arctic squa and favourite small bird the wheatear. Golden eye ducks nest in trees then jump down to join mother in the water. Beautiful landscapes were another feature of Roger’s talk and included mountain scenery, rock formations, beaches, archaeological sites and wild flowers. The competition “Something Scottish” was won by Chris Haycox, with Janet Evans second and Anne Griffiths third.

The next meeting is the AGM on 10th March which will include some social time. WI meetings are held at the Millennium Community Centre at 7pm in the winter and visitors and new members are most welcome.
